- Medium sized sauce pan
- Screen (pop one out of your window if you’re in a pickle)
- Shredded paper (old bills)
- Paper towels (anything absorbent)
- Seeds (as long as they are small and flat)
- Food coloring (optional)
Okay, lets start by filling your medium sauce pan with those shredded bills (of course after you paid them). Cover with enough water to just begin to see it above the paper. Put this on medium heat for about 15 minutes. This will help the paper turn into a pulp quicker. Pulp is paper blended with water used to create our final product, recycled paper.
Take a large glass liquid measuring cup and add one part paper pulp, three parts water, and the seeds. I will include a link below to the seeds I purchased on Amazon. You will notice I used Paris Island Romaine Lettuce seeds to stick with the whole love/Valentines Day theme. You may use any type of seeds you’d like as long as they are very tiny. If you want to add color, now is the time to do it.
Go ahead and place paper towels over the top and press to squeeze out as much water as possible. You will press until the entire piece you are working on comes off of the screen and sticks to the paper towel.
Now place this with the seed paper facing up, onto a flat surface. Blot with paper towel until almost dry. You will know when you they are ready when they no longer stick to either side of the paper towels.
Now let these sit out overnight or until dry. If they curl up on you, just use an iron to flatten them out. Now you can fill them out and send them to those you love.Write on the back of each one a little note letting the recipient know they just have to throw this recycled card into dirt, water, and they will have fresh lettuce in just a few weeks.
This is such a great project to do with the kids. I hope you enjoyed this cute Valentines Day craft idea. Subscribe to be the first to get new projects, recipes, and ideas sent right to your inbox. Until next time.
